Sedlescombe lies off the A21 about 5 miles north of Hastings. It is a picturesque village with a sloping village green surrounded by half timbered houses some of which date back as far as the 15th century. Both the village and church are recorded in the Domesday Book. There is a pub and a hotel as well as a village shop/post office in the village.
The Pestalozzi Children’s Village lies on the outskirts of Sedlescombe. It was founded in 1959 on the site of Oaklands where Hercules Brabazon, the artist and local landowner once lived. The Pestalozzi Village offers children from Third World countries the opportunity to gain an education and learn practical skills that they can take back to their own country.
The church is dedicated to St John the Baptist and is about half a mile from the village green. It has several interesting features including a seating plan dated 1632 showing the names of the parishioners and the seats they were allocated.
